The story of Romeo and Juliet is one that will be passed on throughout the ages. This brawl between the Montagues and Capulets has lived on for centuries, back far enough for everyone to forget how this feud began. On the streets of Verona, a fight begins between the servants of the Montagues and Capulets. Riots overthrow the town until Prince Escalus calms the crowd and threatens to keep the peace. Soon, my friend Benvolio and Romeo talk about Romeo and his love life. Apparently he is lovesick and carries the burden of loving a beautiful maiden, but being out other her favor of love. That is where I, Mercutio, come in and talk to my young friend that love is not worth it. The servant Peter comes along and offers us an invitation to the bar that is being thrown in the Capulet household. Obviously this was the chance for Romeo to leave Rosaline alone and find someone else who would love to have Romeo in her favor. There was a little bit of convincing needed to get Romeo to go and eventually I had to tell him that Rosaline was going to join so that he would change his mind. Luckily, this was a masquerade, so no one would notice us as we entered to ball. As we were on our way, Romeo almost abandoned us, but I may have had to pull a few strings and say a few things to finally ensure Romeo's arrival.
When we got to the party, Romeo had drifted away and left us. Benvolio and I celebrated and had a few drinks and soon enough we left. There was no sign of Romeo, so I began to call out his "love" (at the time) and there was still no sign of him so we went home. I had heard from someone else that Romeo had met this new girl at the ball. HA! I told him that love is simple and short. But he had fallen for Juliet Capulet. A Capulet! Of all of maidens at that dance, he decided to choose the only daughter of his families enemy. That was the first mistake that Romeo made. Because he had found her, he decided to sneak out to the garden and see her at the balcony. They speak for a short time and exchange vows and agree to marry the next day. That is the second mistake that Romeo has made during this night. Unbelievable! The next day, Romeo talks to Friar Laurence about the wedding. Friar Laurence is hesitant at first because of the current feud between the families, but eventually submits to marrying them.
Later that day, Benvolio and I find Romeo and challenge from Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, for Romeo. Romeo obviously does not accept because of his relationship with him now, but I accept. Soon after, the nurse of Juliet talks to Romeo about the meeting between him and Juliet later that day. After they talk and leave, Tybalt finds his way to me and we duel. All is well, and I am obviously doing great, but Romeo returns and decides to try and stop this. His gesture only causes me to become distracted and Tybalt stabs me under Romeo's arm. This tragic death of mine is truly horrific and I should have never died because of Romeo. Oh the HORROR of my death is unbearable. My soul is then lifted up and I can see everything that is happening. Romeo then kills Tybalt to avenge me, but is then banished because of his murder by Prince.
In the house of Capulet, Lord Capulet is planning a wedding for Juliet with Paris, my kinsman, but Juliet is already married to Romeo! Juliet tries to explain to her father that she does not want to marry Paris, but she never truly tells why she chooses not to. Her father then threatens her that she will be disowned if she does not marry Paris because Lord Capulet feels like he had chosen the perfect match for Juliet and his social status. Juliet leaves to talk to Friar Laurence and take about what she should do to be loyal to her love and Friar creates a plan that would assist her. Friar Laurence gives her a sleeping potion that would cause her to fall asleep and seem as if she is dead because is stiffens her body, stops her heart, and lets her blood run cold. He writes a letter to Romeo about the plan and how Romeo should retrieve her from her grave and take her to Mantua to live together forever. Soon after Friar Laurence sends the letter, Juliet returns home, claiming she had left to ask for forgiveness and her family continues planning for the wedding. Juliet leaves to her room and takes the potion which leaves her "dead" in her bed. The nurse comes in and sees that she is dead, and instead of celebrating a wedding, the Capulets will mourn at a funeral. Balthasar, Romeo's servant, leaves to Mantua with the bad news of Juliet's death, which causes Romeo to rage and immediately leave for Verona. Before he leaves, he buys a lethal poison that will kill him instantly.
Apparently, Friar Laurence did not send Balthasar to deliver the message about Juliet's plan, which causes a large mess, so he decides to get Juliet before Romeo arrives. The next night, Romeo visits Juliet's grave, but then encounters Paris and they duel. Romeo then kills Paris as well and continues on with his visit to Juliet. After saying his goodbyes and expressing his love, he takes the poison and dies right before Juliet wakes up. Witnessing her dead husband, Juliet is devastated, gives Romeo a kiss, and kills herself with is dagger. Friar Laurence, Prince Escapes, Lord Montague and Lord Capulet enter and witness what has happened. There is more tears to be shed and Friar Laurence explains everything that has occurred from the start. Finally, Prince calls out the final word and Lord Montague and Lord Capulet end the feud between the two households. This tragic event has lead to future peace and now it is over. No one will be forgotten, especially the story of Romeo and Juliet.
